Toor dal is also sometimes referred to as lentils or split pigeon peas. Toor dal is a member of the legume family and is a significant part of the Indian diet and is cooked in different forms in various parts of the country, be it sambhar from southern India or khichdi from the north, it is used in almost every region in some way or the other.
